Freetown Computer Literacy Project

ADC plans to implement a computer literacy project in Fourah Bay College, located in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Currently Fourah Bay College has a student population of nearly 4,000 with only 60 functioning computers. Our goal is to change that by collecting usable computers in the United States, traveling to Freetown during the summer of 2010 and setting up computer labs in the Fourah Bay College Library and other facilities on the campus. ADC members traveled to Guinea, where they spent 7 weeks in the small village of Mitty Maadou, in the Fouta Djallon region. The final project included a water pump, a housing unit for the teachers, an office and a storage room and a complete renovation of the school.

The original school was hardly an environment for learning. The walls were crumbling, the roof leaked and was rusty, the classrooms were dark with tiny windows, the chalkboards and floors were cracked, the desks were all splintered or broken. ADC changed that.

What's New

The ADC is hosting a panel featuring several college students who have been working on projects involving development in Africa. The panel will be on November 15th at 12:05 at a location to be determined. The first 20 people at the door will receive an ADC t-shirt.
